Assessment, Referral and Short-Term Counseling:

CARE EAP provides confidential diagnostic assessments and short-term, solution-focused counseling for troubled employees and their eligible dependents. When more specialized care is needed, CARE EAP counselors make referrals to treatment facilities or private providers. CARE EAP carefully evaluates the presenting problems of employees in order to rapidly recognize emerging mental health and substance abuse related issues. When identified, the program acts quickly in facilitating an employee’s admission to the most appropriate treatment program. Referral facilitation and management, including verification of eligibility and pre-certification is coordinated with the health insurance benefits provider.

A confidential case file is maintained on each employee or family referred for assessment services. Non-confidential data is extracted and included in quarterly utilization reports. Items tracked include referral date, source of referral (self or management), presenting problem, (self-report and clinician’s assessment), service outcome (closed or referred and to whom), and any follow-up conducted. Written follow-up of employees who are referred for ongoing treatment is provided.

Follow-up contact is an integral component of service delivery and monitoring. Written quarterly reports are provided to the organization including statistical information with a synopsis of services provided. Absolute confidentiality is preserved and written authorization to release information is secured at the initial assessment.

CARE EAP offers a choice of a one to three, one to six, or one to ten session models. A thorough assessment is completed and either brief counseling is initiated within the EAP or a rapid referral is made into the insurance benefit. If the employee is not insured, referrals are provided to local community mental health and social service agencies. Case management and follow-up is an integral part of the program. Contacts are made to ensure that each person being referred into their benefit plan has followed through with the recommended referral.

Management/Supervisory Case Consultation:

CARE EAP provides a 24-hour 365-day toll-free number which ensures access to a master’s prepared clinician. Clinical staff are trained and qualified to assess, intervene and case manage troubled employees and/or family members, directing them to the most appropriate level of treatment. Many times a clinician can see an employee within 24 hours if in acute distress. For those experiencing a medical emergency, referral to the appropriate emergency service is facilitated. An appointment with an EAP clinician will be offered in a convenient and timely manner. All non-emergency or non-urgent calls are responded to within one business day.

24 Hour Toll-Free Hotline:

CARE EAP clinicians can provide telephone case consultation to management and supervisory staff. In-person consultations are also conducted and encouraged. Collaborating with an EAP professional about a troubled employee, an upcoming confrontation or a work-team dysfunction can be a cost-effective early intervention strategy. Interventions may be arranged for entire departments to assess internal struggles, personality dynamics, and operational processes, and to assist management in developing a functional plan. Also, an EAP clinician can be involved in mediation or negotiation between a supervisor and employee or between employees.

The CARE EAP program has been designed to work in close collaboration with the Human Resources Department. CARE EAP provides consultations to HR regarding policies specific to drug and alcohol, sexual harassment, workplace violence, crisis intervention, etc
